The Sharjah Archaeology Museum is the permanent archive for all archaeological material recovered in the Emirate of Sharjah. The mission of the museum is to preserve, interpret, and exhibit its collections and to disseminate knowledge about them in a manner that encourages appreciation, learning, and enjoyment of Sharjah’s archaeological heritage.
About the Museum
Sharjah Archaeology Museum opened on Saturday, May 10th 1997. Archaeologists have been working in Sharjah for almost 40 years and they continue today. All archaeological excavation is carried out and managed by the Archaeological Section of the Directorate of Archaeology, under the Department of Culture & Information, in association with several foreign and local missions. They have uncovered an immense amount of material. It is the responsibility and privilege of the Archaeology Museum to store, care for and display these finds for the people of Sharjah now and in the future.
Accessibility: The museum is equipped with an audio loop and a wheelchair for the use of visitors.
The Archaeology museum has a gift shop selling t-shirts, jewellery, books, postcards, novelty gifts and souvenirs.
